The run of consecutive Louisiana state championships for South Plaquemines ended at two on Saturday. Haynesville won its 15th state title with a 19-12 win over the Hurricanes in the 1A championship game. The Times-Picayune reports that South Plaquemines killed its attempt at a three-peat with a lot of penalties.
The story of the South Plaquemines High School football program grew after the release of New York Times writer Jere Longman's book on the Hurricanes that overcame all kinds of odds in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
